- Keeping the knee bent, raise the kicking leg close to the body.
- Raise the leg high above the opponent's head and strike downwards with either the heel or ball of the foot to hit the target.
- If the opponent is a suitable distance away the leg should be raised in a straight line. However, if the opponent is too close, the leg may be lifted to the inner of the attacker (bakkat naeryo chagi) inner to outer axe kick or the outer (an naeryo chagi) outer to inner axe kick.
