Pattern Number 1 Taegeuk Il Jang - Heaven and Light
Taegeuk 1 Jang represents Heaven and light and symbolises the divination sign of Keon or the creation of the universe. As such this poomse should be thought of as the beginning of Taekwondo training.
Heaven gives us rain whilst the sun gives us light and makes things grow. This Taegeuk forms the basis for future complex movements. When performing this form the mind should be clear and allow all the basic techniques to flow.
There are 18 movements in Pattern 1 as shown in the Pattern Map.
